What do you love about the performing arts course at KES?

Anya Over my years at kind Edward’s, I have loved performing arts and feel it is an amazing opportunity to explore new skills and build confidence. The camaraderie of this subject allows you to collaborate with your peers and explore your own skill set. The course gives you the freedom to create and analyse your own performances. You get to show the skills of a triple threat performer and look into the work of talented practitioners. I particularly enjoyed the Musical theatre unit, as you are able to showcase all skills and modify to your strengths as well as challenging yourself to step out of your comfort zone. As someone who is a shy person at first, I have found this has helped develop a new inner confidence. Other units throughout the year give you a Freedom to create your own performance, as a group, from a stimulus. This was great fun!!

What A-levels/ AS levels do you take alongside performing arts?

Alongside performing arts, I study psychology and physical education. I am a dancer and performer outside of school and have always loved musical theatre. I plan to attend university to study sport ad exercise science. Although I am not going down the pathway of performing, I will continue to take dance classes in university societies. I have a passion to help performers and athletes get suitable health and physio care needed to succeed in professional careers. I hope to use my confidence and knowledge gained through BTEC performing arts throughout my future endeavours.

What are your plans after sixth form?

This shows that even if ultimately the plan is not performing arts schools, this subject can still be beneficial in many ways. At university you may be asked to create and deliver presentations, the confident and organisation built from taking performing arts can help prepare you for this. Working with others and learning to take on people’s ideas as well as contribute yourself as all valuable skills learned over the two years of sixth form. Additionally, this is a comfortable environment and enjoyable subject with lots of laughs and happy collaborations.

JemimaWhat do you love about the performing arts course at KES?

I have really enjoyed my entire course of performing arts here at KES and am grateful for it creating a space for me to express myself. The sense of community enables you to create friendships with people who share a passion for the arts and collaborate in a manner of creative ways from producing pieces of naturalistic theatre to musical theatre performances. The course not only pushes you outside of your comfort zone to aid the discovery of your strengths and weaknesses but also improves your confidence drastically. It is quite a flexible course in which I have found feasible to manage alongside my other A-levels. The contrasting workshops which we have participated in have also expanded my knowledge of different styles and allowed for hands-on learning which I believe is one of the most important and beneficial aspects of this course which aren't seen in many other courses.
