The Extended Certificate in Computing: Application Development will give students an insight into how applications are designed and implemented, preparing them for progression to undergraduate study.
It will equip students with the practical skills to analyse problems and develop accessible, effective applications.

How will I be assessed?
For this qualification, students must complete five units:
Two mandatory externally assessed units
- Fundamentals of application development.
- Developing application software
One mandatory NEA unit
- Designing and communicating UX/UI solutions
Two optional NEA units
- Game Development
- Website Development

- The units are graded Pass, Merit and Distinction.
- The qualification is graded Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction*.

The following requirements are essential as a foundation for this course, either:
- Grade 4 or above in GCSE Computer Science/Media Studies
- Level 2 Pass or above in Cambridge Nationals IT or Creative iMedia Certificate
- Equivalencies in other vocational qualifications or high points scores in other subjects
What skills will I gain from studying ICT?
Students will gain an insight into the IT Sector and investigate the pace of technological change, IT Infrastructure and the flow of information on a global scale and the importance of legal and security considerations. Students will also develop professional, personal and social skills through interaction with peers, stakeholders and clients, as well as theoretical knowledge and understanding to underpin these skills. The course will enhance learners’ knowledge, skills and understanding with respect to the development of specifications and the designing, building or testing of applications.

The course provides a strong base for progression to university, apprenticeships or work and are recognised for UCAS tariff points.
