County Cup Football Champions

1st XI v Codsall - Thursday 8th May - KES 2 - 1 Codsall

The 1st XI Football Team travelled to Eccleshall Football Club to play against Codsall in the County Cup Final. The boys were locked in and focused as soon as they began their warm-up. They started like a steam train and created a host of chances from close range without converting. On the 20-minute mark a shot initially blocked on the line was followed in for Lucas to hit home. 1-0.

The team continued to create chances throughout the first half without converting and came into the break with a slender lead. They were asked to go out and produce more of the same, which would take a mammoth effort on a very hot Thursday evening.

As always, they delivered, and Captain, Zack finished well to take a 2-0 lead. The game then became much more equal as Codsall pushed to get back into the game, with the KES boys still pushing to create chances to seal the game.

With 20 minutes to go, Codsall found a way back into the game through a set piece to make it a very nervy finale. Matt ran his legs into the ground and summed up the performance of the team with his work rate. At this point legs were tiring and the boys who came on offered a huge boost of support to continue to press and make things difficult for our opposition.

Despite the pressure, the back four, very ably marshalled by Ed and Oliver stood strong, with an ever-present Ollie in front of them to break up play. Codsall pushed but could not create anything clear cut and the final whistle was met with a wave of excitement from the KES boys who embraced each other following a hard-fought victory. 

CHAMPIONS! 

The boys were able to lift the cup with great pride in how they played but they can be proud of every performance they have put together this year. Back in the changing room they had a final word from Mr Smith, who expressed his gratitude for the work ethic, time and commitment of every player in the team.

However, it was their friendship and support for one another on and off the pitch that made this team so great. They have been through so much on and off the pitch this year and their support for one another has never wavered. A privilege to coach and fantastic ambassadors for the school, to say Mr Smith is proud would be an understatement.
