We made the difficult decision to close the school this morning following an on-site risk assessment. The site team and other staff did a fantastic job of clearing walkways around our large site yesterday and were on site again before 6am this morning. The freezing conditions overnight were expected; however, we were hopeful that by preparing early we would be able to open the school. The decision to close is not taken lightly and has to respond to the current picture rather than solely predictions. The forecast for later today is slightly warmer temperatures then rain so we anticipate being open as usual tomorrow (Wednesday 13th).
Regrettably, we have also had to cancel the Carol Service this evening at the Cathedral. It will not be possible to rearrange this but we will seek opportunities for students to share their performances in other ways over the coming week.
Students in Year 11 should focus on revision for their mock examinations; many Year 13 students still need to complete their UCAS applications; students from other year groups should check that they are up-to-date with homework, using Show My Homework and online learning where appropriate. Year 11 exam briefing assembly will now take place tomorrow at 8.55am in Bader Hall.
Please pass on this reminder to students – Christmas lunch for students still planned for tomorrow Wednesday 13th December. Mrs Knight is preparing a special table with early entry for the tutor group who sold the most raffle tickets this year. Tomorrow is also the deadline for students to bring in gifts in support of the Pathway project linked to the women’s refuge and for the elderly residents at Darwin Court.
Tuesday 19th December will be a Christmas-themed non-uniform day in support of Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Some students and staff may choose to wear Christmas jumpers but festive colours or something simple like a Santa Hat is also welcome. A £2 donation is suggested.
School will close at 1pm on Tuesday 19th December and reopen at the normal time on Wednesday 3rd January.
