For our World Book Day celebrations this year we decided to get back to basics – to celebrate the simple pleasure of reading a book. After months of our young people navigating the complexity of online learning and the expectations that go with it, we are encouraging all students from Year 7 up to 6th form to simply take 20 minutes break away from their screens, their studies and the stresses, to read a book. No expectations, no review to write, no feedback to give. Simply to escape into whatever they choose to read to promote positive mental health.
Library staff offer a click and deliver service where students can choose a book from our catalogue and receive doorstep deliveries to their home. Forget dressing up, making book cakes or creating book characters from toilet rolls – for KES Lichfield this year is simply about the joy, the calm and the escape of reading.
