Welcome to King Edward VI School

At King Edward VI School our overriding aim is to provide a high quality education for all students. We believe that every individual has potential: our commitment is to help each young person to make the most of their abilities. Our expectation for all our students is that the five years of compulsory school is only the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning. The majority of our students seek to continue their education with us in our Sixth Form until they are 18. Our aim is to ensure that they leave us with the knowledge, skills, confidence and love of learning that is needed in education and employment after school days are over.

At King Edward VI School each individual student is supported. We aim to provide an orderly, caring and friendly environment in which each young person can learn and develop as they should. Our goal is to develop a strong partnership between student, parents and school to enable this to take place. We operate an open policy in which parental contact is welcome.

Our curriculum at King Edward VI School is broad, balanced and innovative. Our students are challenged to do their best and are monitored carefully to ensure that they make the progress that is expected. Our aim is to provide the highest quality education for our students. In return we expect a commitment to high standards of effort and behaviour.

Our school is well-equipped and provides good facilities and learning resources. We have invested heavily in ICT equipment to support students’ learning and achievement, with most classrooms having access to Interactive Whiteboards and computers. We have a well-stocked Library Resource Centre and extensive sports facilities including access to King Edward VI Leisure Centre and the all-weather pitch. In recent years we have added to our accommodation – Sixth Form Centre, Phase 1 of the arts development (Music), new languages classrooms and a new pavilion.

Our aim is to provide an all-round education for our students. Extracurricular activities are offered in a wide range of areas such as sport and the arts. We seek to enrich the curriculum with a large number of visits, whether it is locally to Whittington Barracks or the Cathedral or further afield to Paris or the World War One Battlefields.

As a group of staff and students, we are proud of our school and provide opportunities for potential parents and students to see it at work. Our Open Evening in early October is but one of these opportunities. I look forward to meeting you.
